HBV DNA Quantitative

Test Information

Test Name: HBV DNA Quantitative

Performing Lab: Molecular Diagnostic

Synonyms: Hep B by PCR
Hep B Quant PCR

Order Includes: Hep B by PCR
Hep B Quant PCR

Turnaround Time: 15 days

Additional Interpretation: This test is intended for use as an aid in the management of patients with chronic HBV infection undergoing antiviral therapy.

Methodology: COBAS(r) Ampliprep/COBAS(r) TaqMan(r) HBV Test, v2.0 that uses real-time PCR to co-amplify the highly conserved 5’ untranslated region of the HBV genome and a quantitation standard (QS), using DNA extracted from plasma. The presence of a PCR product is detected by hybridization with a probe homologous to the highly conserved sequence of the HBV genome.

Specimen Transportation & Storage Information

Storage and Transport:Deliver to the laboratory IMMEDIATELY for processing. Plasma MUST be separated from whole blood within 24 hours of collection by centrifugation at 800-1600xg for 20 minutes at room temperature (15ºC-30ºC). Transfer plasma to a molecular sterile polypropylene tube and freeze plasma at -80ºC. Note: Plasma may be stored at 25ºC-30ºC for up to 3 days, at 2ºC-8ºC for up to 7 days. Specimen transport: for plasma, wrap the tube with an ice pack (previously stored in the freezer at -20ºC or lower) to ensure that plasma is maintain at a temperature between 2-8ºC during transportation.
