Engraftment Baseline

Test Information

Test Name: Engraftment Baseline

Performing Lab: Molecular Diagnostic

Synonyms: BM Engraft Baseline
Engr Base

Order Includes: BM Engraft Baseline
Engr Base

Turnaround Time: 10 days

Additional Interpretation: Chimerism following bone marrow engraftment is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the bone marrow transplant population. Peripheral blood cells arising from the recipient as well as the donor appear in the peripheral circulation. Early monitoring of this state is necessary to allow early intervention.

Methodology: Peripheral blood, bone marrow or buccal swab DNA from recipient are amplified with the 16-locus Human STR panel (Promega PowerPlex 16 HS) using PCR methodology and the PCR products are characterized by capillary electrophoresis. Informative alleles in the recipient’s sample are identified according to their size and in relation to donor alleles.
